The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) is responsible for promoting road safety and traffic management, driver licensing and vehicle registration in New South Wales. It is also responsible for the maintenance and development of the National Highway and State Road network in NSW. It provides funding assistance to Local Councils for Regional Roads and to a limited extent, for Local Roads.

Vcheck offers those planning to buy a second-hand vehicle a quick and easy way to obtain important information prior to purchase. Vcheck can be purchased for a car, truck, caravan, trailer, bus or motorcycle which has been manufactured on or after 1 January 1989.

You can check the Register of Encumbered Vehicles (REVS) to find out if a vehicle is under finance. REVS can tell you whether a motor vehicle or motorcycle has money owing on it before you purchase a vehicle.
This is important because someone else (eg. a bank or finance company) may be able to repossess the vehicle you have purchased.
To do a REVS search you will need:
- the motor vehicle/motorcycle registration number
- the engine number and
